PIAGGIO

Piaggio is an Italian vehicle manufacturer that has acquired an almost mystical aura of immortality through producing the famous “Vespa” motorcycle. Piaggio was founded in 1884 by Rinaldo Piaggio and unveiled its first motorbike with that internationally renowned name –“Vespa” – in 1946. Following Piaggio’s takeover of the Spanish motorbike manufacturer Derbi in 2001, it also bought the well-known Italian motorbike companies Aprilia (thus acquiring the trademark rights to Laverda) and Moto Guzzi in 2004. Other successful Piaggio models include the “Ape” delivery tricycle and the “Porter” pick-up truck. Today, Piaggio is the European market leader in manufacturing motorised scooters and has been listed on the stock exchange since 2006.
