
Triumph Motorcycles Limited based in Hinckley (Great Britain) is one of the best-known motorcycle manufacturers from England, and the second-oldest motorcycle manufacturer in the world. The original company, “The Triumph Cycle Company”, was founded in London in 1886 by Siegfried Bettman, a German immigrant from Nuremberg. The Tourist Trophy has been held on the Isle of Man since 1907 and even at the inaugural race Triumph took second and third place. 1908 saw Triumph win the Tourist Trophy for the first time with driver Jack Marshall. Thanks to Steve McQueen, Marlon Brando or Clint Eastwood in the 1950s and 1960s, Triumph motorbikes have inspired many a movie-goer as well as their legions of sporting fans. The film “The Wild One” from 1953 in which Marlon Brando rides a 1953 Triumph Thunderbird is testament to the company’s fame in the world of the silver screen. Triumph was the world’s biggest motorbike manufacturer at the start of the 1960s. Today’s models are mainly characterised by their straight three-cylinder engine, made famous as the “wild triple” which boasts incomparable performance and sound.
